• How should I do my hair?
• What about this ginormous zit on my forehead!!!

Any one of these questions has popped in your head and you just don’t know what to do!!!  Fear not, we’re here to help.

Anytime you’re having a professional photo done, you should put some thought and time into planning for the shoot.  While PhotoShop is amazing, don’t come with  a mentality of “we can fix that in photoshop”.  Many times, you can’t and well, as a photographer, I have no interest spending hours fixing stuff in PhotoShop for you.  And you don’t want to pay me for that time.  We’ll work together to get as great of a photo in camera so we don’t have to fix stuff later.

What to Wear

To steal a line from Peter Hurley, one of the best Headshot photographers in the country, “Wear what you love, if you don’t love it, I don’t want to see it.”  Make sense?  Basically, don’t wear something you don’t feel amazing in!  If you don’t feel amazing in the outfit, how can you look amazing in the photo?

Stay away from patterns, lines or things that clash.  Make sure that it compliments your skin and hair.  Don’t try and get crazy with your wardrobe here.  If you’ve got some time with the photographer, bring a few outfits and work with them to find the best outfit that’ll make you look amazing!  Don’t have much time with your photographer.  Wear something classic, clean and classy.  Remember, the photo is of you, not your outfit.

Hair & Makeup?

Yes!!!  Obviously, having the assistance of a professional here is the best option.  But if you can’t, then think about doing your hair and makeup like you’re going on a great date.  Not too much, but definitely enough to look amazing!  Again, if you don’t love it, don’t do it.  It’s just that simple.

Men, don’t forget to pay attention to things here.  Are you growing a unibrow?  Fix it.  Put more than 1 minute into shaving.  Your hair needs real attention as well.  No one wants to see you in the “just got out of the shower” look.

Plan Ahead

Do you have a certain look you’re going for?  Have something specific in mind?  Make sure to chat with your photographer ahead of time so they know what you’re looking for and can help you reach that goal.  You’re working with a professional and the quality of the image is just as important to them, as it is to you.  I want you to look unreal in your photo, and anything I can do to help, that’s what I’m here for.

Lets jump into this!

Our goal with this photo shoot was to capture some crazy, adorable photos of our daughters in their mothers wedding gowns. The special memories the gowns hold mean so much more when you look at your precious children.  And when your precious children are wearing it, and it’s a special moment to capture and then present them with on their wedding day. It took a bit to get the lighting right, but once we got what we were looking for, the shoot took off!!!

Lets meet our first model.  Her name is Ashleigh and she just adores dressing up.  She looks amazing doesn’t she!

Our next model name is Mia and well, we’ll let the photo do the talking.  I like to call this one Mia Lisa, get it?

This little angel is Simone and come on, can you get any sweeter? HA!! If you only knew her!

This is Bekah!  Isn’t she just the purtiest little thing you’ve ever seen?  Of course, I might be slightly biased (I’m a pretty proud daddy).  Some say you can see the Diva in her eyes, some say Devil.  We’ll let you vote!

Our final model is Naomi!  I can’t tell, but I think she enjoyed this shoot just a bit!  Definitely one of my favorites!!

This is our first attempt at this style of shoot, but we’re excited to try again soon!  So much fun, and so many amazing photos have come from the day!
